While some kids were interested in playing cowboys and Indians, it seemed sort of silly to me -- having been raised in cattle country and on an Indian reservation -- 'cause my grandfather knew some of the old characters such as Buffalo Bill and Wild Bill Hitchcock, and many of my schoolmates were pure-blood Lakota Sioux.
