Just how good albumen prints could be was demonstrated by Robert Howlett in 1857 in his famous (and prophetically modern) observation of the British engineer Isambard Kingdom Brunel. In dusty shoes, top hat and crumpled suit, Brunel was rendered for posterity by Howlett's richly detailed albumen print, showing the pioneering engineer casually smoking a cheroot in front of his newly built ship, the Great Eastern.
